Year 6 Transition

Year 6 transition is an exciting time for students moving to secondary school. Below are some transition tasks to help students get started on their journey to Higham Lane North Academy.

It's competition time!

Alex and the site team are very busy, working hard building our school! On our site visit this week we told them how excited you all are about being in Year 7 at Higham Lane North Academy.    They were really interested to hear about how we met you all at our recent evening and the questions you were asking.

They would really like to hear from you! So, there are two competitions for you to enter! There are prizes, certificates and merits that you can earn for your house in September!

Choose from one of these competitions to enter:

  1.  Use your creative and art skills to design a card to Alex and the team to say Thank You to them for all their hard work building the school. They would love to see your drawings of the school; Or,
  2. Write an email to Alex and the team (no more than 300 words) telling them a bit about yourself, and what you are looking forward to when you are at Higham Lane North Academy. You can even include a question for them if you wish!

Closing date for all entries:  Thursday 10th April. Please email all entries to: hello@hlna.co.uk and remember to include your name and current primary school.

Readers never run out of adventures!

At HLNA we will always promote and celebrate reading!  We are excited to begin our reading journey with you straightaway and have an exciting activity for you to do!    Why not complete a book review of either your favourite book or a book you are currently reading? You can use the template here and send your completed reviews to: hello@hlna.co.uk.

Please ensure that your parent/carer gives us permission to publish your review on our website!  You don't have to be published if you don't want to!  If you send us a book review, you will earn 5 merits and be entered into our exciting HLNA Year 7 competition...more details coming soon..!

Remember that Mrs Robinson is an English teacher who loves books and reading, so she is very excited about this month's activity!   Remember to use the most powerful vocabulary you can think of, ensure that you use correct punctuation, and that all your sentences make sense!  You can always ask an adult/friend to check this for you!

Why not also have a look at this website for more reading inspiration?  www.toppsta.com   Or take a look at what our Librarians have put together for you - a collection of some fascinating books that you may want to try!   Let us know if you read on from the list, and compete a review of the book!

Enjoy your reading!
