Admissions

Higham Lane North Academy welcomes applications from parents of all children and our inclusive admissions process will at all times be open, transparent and fair, and will meet the requirements of the National School Admissions Code, the Appeals Code and admissions legislation.

Higham Lane North Academy plans to open with a published admission number (PAN) of 150 with five forms of entry into Year 7 in September 2025. It will grow in line with the local need for additional secondary school places until reaching full capacity as a 900-pupil school with 180 pupils in each year group from Year 7 to Year 11.

How to apply for a Year 7 place for September 2025

Higham Lane North Academy will run its own admissions arrangements for the 2025/26 school year. However, Warwickshire County Council will handle the admissions process on behalf of Higham Lane North Academy and parents should apply through the coordinated scheme. Applicants living outside of Warwickshire should apply through their local authority’s admissions process. You can apply for up to six schools and are strongly advised to name at least three schools on your application. You will receive an offer for a school place directly from your local authority.

Warwickshire residents: Apply through Warwickshire County Council/Warwickshire Parent Portal
Leicestershire residents: Apply through Leicestershire County Council/Leicestershire Parent Portal using the 'advanced search' in the Parent Portal for out-of-county schools.

The application process for secondary school places (Year 7) opens from 1st September 2024 and the deadline to apply for a secondary school place is 31st October 2024 (31st December 2024 if your address changes after 31st October).

Name Higham Lane North Academy as your first preference with confidence

As is often the case with new free schools, we predict that applicants naming Higham Lane North Academy as their first preference of secondary school for our opening year are likely to have a higher chance of receiving an offer than in future years. This is because more families will be aware of this new choice of school as it becomes an established centre of educational excellence, more houses will be constructed in the new developments within the priority area (catchment area), and more priority places for siblings and children of staff places will be allocated in line with the oversubscription criteria as the school grows.

National Offer Day: Monday 3rd March 2025

When the local authority makes admissions offers on National Offer Day (3rd March 2025), these offers will be unconditional as HLNA's Funding Agreement has been signed.

If you are happy with the school place you have been allocated through your local authority, you do not need to do anything as your offer will be automatically accepted; you only need to contact your local authority should you wish to refuse the offer or make an appeal, details of which will be in your offer letter.

We are aware that we have a waiting list for Year 7 places so, if you are offered a place at HLNA and no longer need it, please refuse your place to ensure that it is reallocated to a child on our waiting list as soon as possible.

 Join our waiting list

If you selected HLNA as a higher preference than the school you are allocated on 3rd March,  you will automatically be added to the HLNA waiting list. Where places become available, they will be allocated to children on the waiting list in strict priority order following our oversubscription criteria as stated in our Admissions Policy. Parents/carers will be contacted if their child is allocated a place.

Families who did not name HLNA as one of their preferences on their original application, for example, if they have only recently heard about our new school, may also join our waiting list from 3rd March by making a change to their application.

Leicestershire residents: Contact Leicestershire County Council Admissions Team by emailing admissions.online@leicester.gov.uk or by calling 0116 454 1009 (option 1)

Changes can be made to an application, and late applications can be received and processed until the coordinated admissions process ends on 31st August 2025.
